Today’s Daily Prompt is asking me to choose any author, living or dead, to write my biography. Does the title give it away? I’m sure it does. I am choosing the great Samuel Taylor Colerdige. Why? Because his poetry speaks to me in a way that not many things do.
While other writers would be writing “and on this day she began kindergarten, and a new life of school”, Coleridge would be writing…
In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
A stately pleasure-dome decree:
Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
Through caverns measureless to man
Down to a sunless sea.
Only about me rather than Khan. Rime of the Ancient Mariner changed my life when I read it. My head was filled with scenes of Death and Life-in-Death casting dice on the bow of a ghostly gallion. Of the living-dead sailing a ship across the sea. I was dreaming of Albatross and nature and sea sprites. It was a magical time. All I have to do is re-read the poem, or recite it in my head, I can almost recite the entire thing from memory, and I am right back there in that wonderful world. Although my life is nowhere near as interesting, Colerdige has such a beautiful and masterful turn of phrase that he could make my life sound amazing. Imagine this kind of mastery..

You know, you may just be on to something with this one… I guess, that’s why I included Shakespeare in my also ran list. Maybe I need to write my autobiography and have some write a biography – mine would be like a picture of my life, and the other would be like a caricature.
I love the idea of a real one and a fun one! I think I’ll get Dr Seuss to do my fun one.
Copy cat!
You don’t own the Dr, at least I don’t think you do?
That was one of my answers! I’m sure you”re gonna be all like, “But I live in Australia!” But it matters not!
What Coleridge?
You lost me.
Oh sorry. For a second there I thought you were saying you had chosen Coleridge to do yours too! Then I realised you were, in fact, talking about Dr Seuss from the comments section, but I’d already pressed ‘reply’ and don’t like deleting things…. you can have Dr Seuss if you like. He was only my choice for my funny second book if I could have one ‘proper’ choice and one funny one.
Oh, I can have him? Like it was your choice?
Yeah. I’m that cool.
Lol, Indeed you are.

So glad that we can have choices in life…I chose two in mine one serious and one fun. Thank you for the ping back
You’re very welcome! Heaps of people seem to have chosen two, I wish I had thought of it when I originally posted.
