Hey Peeps – Let’s play Family Feud!

Ooooohhh guess what? I’m part of a blog family! Let’s go on family feud!

Doesn’t that look fun?!

In case you’re wondering what I’m talking about, the fabulous Jester from thematticuskingdom nominated me for the family blogging award, which is actually a pretty big deal, because it means he is saying I’m part of his blog family. That is no small matter. Thank you DJ. I will be nominating you right back!

Here are the rules…

1. Display the award logo on your blog

family award

2. Link back to the person who nominated you (see above)

3. Nominate 10 others who have an impact on your WordPress experience and family

4. Let your friends know you have chosen them.

OK so… the people I would like to come on Family Feud with me are…..

1. DJ from thematticuskingdom (oooh big shock, It’s almost like you saw that one coming!). Why? He knows heaps of trivia, especially about movies, and with him on our team we’d totally win! I’ve had a close link with DJ and his wonderful blog for some time now, what with guest posts and awards going back and forth. We have built up quite a friendship and he is well and truly part of my blog family

2. Papa Angst – knows all about The Golden Girls and other such random pieces of information you can uncover in a dinosaur museum. Incredibly handy on a game show. Papa Angst was one of my original peeps. I found him not 5 minutes in to my WordPress journey. I love his blog. He’s a great guy.

3. The Mercenary Researcher - Works as a research librarian – read kicking arse (or ass if your American) on game shows! I followed this blog millenniums ago (that’s in blog years) and have built up quite a link here. Totes part of my family!

4. Twindaddy  from Stuphblog – You need a trooper on your team to threaten the opposition (he doesn’t have a lot of follow-through when it comes to shooting people but the other contestants don’t know that). Once again there’s a link with guest posting here, but also, like the above blogs, TD reads all my stuff and I read all his stuph and the comments he leaves on my posts always add that little something. I don’t know if he feels the same way. I have been accused of hijacking the odd post here and there… secretly I think he’d miss me if I dropped off the Earth, but you never know, he might throw a blog party!

5. Miss Four Eyes – It is common knowledge that anyone with glasses is smart right? So we want her on our team. She also hands out naked hugs, which is good for morale if we happen to be down a few points, and also might have some sway with the judges. MFE always reads my stuff, always comments. She is a very loyal bloggy friend and an integral part of the She Said What family.

6. Fearless Leader of the Dumbass Hordes - This guy knows so much stuff about stupid people, he’d be just our guy for Family Feud. Dumbass Leader always reads the stuff I write and I see his little gravatar in my likes and comments all the time. I appreciate it. He is part of this blog family.

I do understand that there are only 5 people on a Family Feud team, however, I find this discriminatory to large families, so I’m taking a stand. Suck it up TV land. We’re having more!

7. Number 7 is Rohan and his 7 things – He writes books and music and stuff, I’m reading one of his books now called ‘Gyaros Book One – The Mice Eat Iron’. It’s really awesome. I’m reading it on my smart phone as I don’t have a kindle or an E-Reader of any kind (sending hints out into the universe…). Check out Rohan’s blog and his book.

8. Ryan from eyE[before]E – I just found this blog recently. I’m loving it. Ryan knows his stuff. He writes really interesting things about MSG and hoverboards and even the odd bit of poetry (as in it’s not usual when he writes poetry, his poetry is not odd, it’s awesome). Ryan doesn’t do awards per se, but he can still come and help us win Family Feud.

9. Sam and his Online Journal – Sam and I had a little moment recently as he celebrated a blog milestone. Definitely part of the She Said What Family Feud Team. I’m thinking of having shirts made up. It worked to get me photos with Jedward, maybe it will win game shows too?

10. Nina from Words that Flow Like Water – We have a Eurovision connection. Eurovision rocks. Nuff said! We also tweet random stuff across the Twitter scape all the time. Usually about Eurovision or Jedward. This makes her 1000 times awesome!

Well this concludes our blog Family Feud Team. We are gonna rock it, and with competition like the guys in the following footage you will soon see us one hell of a lot richer!

Yep – we win!

An Award – and an apology…

Hello blog peeps,

It seems I have been nominated for another award. But first an apology… in recent weeks I recall having been nominated for awards that I have not accepted. I do not recall which awards or where I was nominated. I am a bad bloggy friend. I am so sorry *hangs head in shame. It will not happen again, at least not this week. In my defense I have been really busy

I’ve been preparing for Eurovision, shopping, attempting to define gender and rocking out to some Asian Pop/Rap. The usual She Said What eclectic mix. But none of that is an excuse for my supreme award-recieving suckyness. If you gave me an award and I’ve not accepted it please let me know and I will do it now, today.

Nasty business aside, today I have been nominated by DJ Matticus from thematticuskingdom. The award I have been nominated for is…

most influential blogger

And I have to share what DJ said about me. It’s one of the best blogging compliments I think I’ve ever received and I just would like to brag, just a little bit. He said I was one of the five bloggers who influenced him and then wrote this…

“Steph makes me laugh and cry and think and ponder and squirt milk out of my nose.  She’s amazing like that.”

Ok WOW! Thank you so much! I’d like to thank God, The Academy etc etc. But really, it means a lot to receive such amazing compliments from bloggers whose writing you so admire.

Anyway on to the business. To accept this award I have to list 5 things that inspire me and then nominate 5 other bloggers for the award. DJ combined these into one thing, I don’t know if that’s how it’s usually done? But I’m going to break the mold a bit (go on, be surprised). Here goes…

1. I am inspired by boredom. No really. When I have nothing to do my mind races and out come the words

2. I am inspired by jam on toast and tea

3. I am inspired by world events and internet memes about them. Like this one

Korea meme

4. I am inspired by awesome Pop tunes and wicked accompanying dance moves. Like this by Chinese artist Jay Chou – It’s called “Gong Gong With A Headache”, no for real!

Yes those are actually zombies, ninja style! The dance is super easy – head sprinkler, turn sideways and bob! try it – you know you want to.

5. I am inspired by other bloggers. I know most of these guys I’m listing have already got one of these awards, but I’m nominating who inspires me, so I must be honest now – and as such here’s my list of nominees, i know I’m only supposed to list 5, but I have 6, suck it up!

DJ Matticus - nominated me I know – but I’m nominating him right back. Did you see his ode to his little Prince? He made me cry first thing on a Monday morning – nobody should be allowed to write that well – fuck you DJ!

Twindaddy from Stuphblog – It’s no secret, I’ve been a proud member of the Stuph Mafia for a long time. It’s one of my favourtie blogs, and TD one of my favourite authors. He inspires me all the time. Especially Blunt Life Coach – I love that guy!

Miss Four Eyes – Yes I know, another one you all know I love lots and lots. Miss Four Eyes inspired me to blog naked, she inspires me to embrace my inner child and not to be afraid to blog. Thank you MFE!

Rohan from Rohan7things – relatively new to my blogging radar is Rohan. He writes about deep stuff over there, and his words have given me strength in dark places and weak moments. Feeling down about something? Read Rohan’s back catalogue and get your shit in perspective. Works for me.

Rutabaga the Mercenary Researcher - Once again, you all know how much I love this blog. I hang out for every post, it comes straight to my email inbox, and I am constantly inspired by the stuff coming out the Mercenary’s extraordinary brain!

Last but not least, a new friend of mine, a fellow Aussie – Ryan from eyE[before]E. He’s a great writer and his last post about Quantam Physics really blew my mind – Marty McFly hoverboards are in the future!

So this has been a long post – wow – I’m very verbose today (as opposed to when really?). It’s been fun – stay real

Steph

What Bothers Me About the Sisterhood…

Hi Blog Peeps,

Well it’s Easter and all that, but I must subject you to a brief rant, and I’m not sorry.

I was reading some blogs on parenting on Tumblr (I know, you don’t need to go there). Anyway one blog post particularly bothered me. I’m not going to link the post because I don’t want to give her extra traffic. This mum was saying that she was a single mum with four children. She worked really hard to provide for them and that life was really tough. Up until that point she had me on side. I was thinking wow she’s really struggling and I feel for her, and then she changed tack a bit. Well a lot. She launched into a 5 paragraph tirade berating other mummy bloggers in the parenting category for ‘whinging’ about their problems like ‘my kid won’t go to sleep’, or ‘I’m having trouble toilet training’. Basically what she was saying was that because these women had secure home lives and stable families, that their problems were so much less important than hers, and they should not blog about them. Um, excuse me?!

This, in a nutshell, is what shits me about the sisterhood. Mums are forever bringing each other down. You have the breastfeeders against the bottle feeders, the working mums against the stay at home mums and so on. It’s not just mums, it’s women in general. Why do we have to compete? Why is someone else’s recap of their problems somehow a reflection on yours? The two things are not connected in any way. Yes , at times we acknowledge that other people are having a much tougher time of things than we are. I came under fire for doing just that in a post I wrote about my son and his developmental delays. The reason I put a paragraph in acknowledging that lots of families and children were having bigger struggles was that I honestly felt it. I have a close family friend who at that time was going through some really hard stuff with the health of a child in her family and I just wanted to acknowledge that compared to her struggle I did in fact feel very lucky. But that does not negate my own struggles. Why do women do this? Why can we not be supportive of one another and show empathy, kindness and community, especially in motherhood. Surely we are better than this.

Yours in solidarity and without judgement

Steph
